Chelsea’s Boy Scouts of America (BSA) Troop 476 has embarked on a heartwarming mission to honor and remember military service members laid to rest at Mount Olivet and Oak Grove Cemeteries. The troop is partnering with the esteemed Wreaths Across America (WAA) program for this noble endeavor, scheduled to take place on Saturday, December 16th. A poignant ceremony is set for 12 p.m., where wreaths will be laid on service member graves in a touching tribute to their sacrifices.
Unis pour Honorer les Héros
United to Honor Heroes
Wreaths Across America is a nationally recognized program that places a significant emphasis on the importance of remembering and honoring veterans who have passed away. This heartfelt practice involves the sponsorship and placement of wreaths on the graves of these valiant heroes. For every sponsored wreath, the name of a veteran will be read aloud, followed by the wreath being tenderly laid upon the corresponding grave, ensuring that the memory of their service lives on.
Un Héritage de Respect et de Mémoire
A Legacy of Respect and Remembrance
Last year, WAA, in conjunction with its extensive volunteer network, laid over 2.7 million sponsored wreaths at 3,702 locations across the nation. This remarkable feat was made possible through the generous contributions of over 5,000 sponsorship groups, corporate donations, and in-kind support from the country’s transportation industry. The collective effort of all these supporters helped ensure that veterans’ graves were adorned with the honor and respect they so rightly deserve.
With a tradition spanning over three decades, the annual wreath-laying event typically takes place on the second or third Saturday of December. This special day is marked by a touching journey from Harrington, Maine to the hallowed grounds of Arlington National Cemetery, often referred to as “the world’s largest veterans’ parade.” The convoy, which includes trucks, local law enforcement, dedicated staff, and passionate supporters, makes stops at various points along the way. These stops are designed to raise awareness about WAA’s noble mission and underscore the profound significance of remembrance, honor, and education.
